We are funded by the people of Logan County! Through our Member Churches and private donations and United Way and local clubs, groups, and schools.

All donations are tax-deductable!

MEMBER CHURCHES - These are churches who support us both financially and with Board members to govern our organization. Click here to see a current list of our member churches. Many times, groups within these churches choose to also send donations.

 

PRIVATE DONATIONS - All private donations are tax - deductable and are kept strictly confidential. Give a unique gift! Give a donation in honor or memory of someone and we will send a card acknowledging the gift.

 

UNITED WAY - For the last several years, we have been the awarded the highest grant amount in Logan County from United Way. It is not an easy task to become a United Way Agency. Organizations must prove that they are being run correctly and account for how donations are spent. Quarterly reports and yearly applications are required to continue receiving United Way funds. All money raised by United Way in Logan County stays in Logan County!

 

PLUS ONE PROGRAM - Customers of Electric Plant Board or Pennyrile Rural Co-op may choose to add $1 or more a month to their electric bill. The money is collected and sent to us for assistance with clients’ electric bills. In order to sign up for this, pick up a form at the electric company’s office or our office. If you pay your bill online, please check with your electric company to see if you will need to add the extra amount to the total due shown online.

 

LOCAL CLUBS, GROUPS, BUSINESSES, AND SCHOOLS - Many of our local groups, clubs, and businesses have donated to Good Sam at one time or another. The Red Hat Society, Rotary, Kiwanis, Harvest Fest, Logan Telephone Co-Op, Logan County Home Builders and many others have all lent their support to our cause.

 

For several years, in December, the Logan County FFA/FCCLA has  promoted a food drive at the high school. The food is divided between our food pantry and another local organization (Agape’s Toys for Tots). This food drive alone usually provides enough of a boost to our pantry to help for 2-3 months. FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS - Food pantry donations may be monetary or canned/non-perishable foods. Some member churches choose a certain month to concentrate on the food pantry. Many groups and Sunday School classes do food drives through-out the year. One reason to give money for the food pantry is our membership in Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland. As a member of “Feeding America” we can purchase some food items at a very discounted rate. It also allows us to handle the USDA Commodities (TEFAP) program. The TEFAP program provides about a third of the food we distribute and we only pay a very low delivery fee for it. At least once a year, we used to try to purchase a truckload of dry goods from a manufacturer/distributor at wholesale cost. Due to our partnership with Feeding America and Wal-Mart we have no need to do this anymore.

 

THE FEINSTEIN CHALLENGE - Since 2006, we have taken part in the Feinstein Challenge. Mr. Feinstein challenges local food banks to raise as much money and food as they can for their own pantry during March and April. He then uses the total raised by all participating food banks to proportionately divide a million dollars of his private funds to them. The more we raise, the more we get! All donations towards this must say “Feinstein” or “Food” in order to be counted. To learn more, click here.

 

FOUNDATION GRANTS - We have, on occasion, applied for grants. Our first and largest grant came from the Carpenter’s Foundation back in 2002. It was for $55,000 and it allowed us to purchase our current building. Over the years, Carpenter’s Foundation has paid for almost all of the equipment we have through various grants. Wal-Mart has also been  a good supporter through grants and other donations. In the past, we have also received grants from Citicorp.
