Serving the Needs of Logan County Since 1997

LATEST NEWS

2/24/10 - The CSFP Senior box program is up and running. The Master List has been filled and we are working on the waiting list. We still have some extra boxes to distribute. We hope to have several on the waiting list soon as we have been told that whenever Feeding America has extra boxes they will look at the waiting lists to decided where to send them.

The VITA tax program has been keeping us jumping on Saturdays. By this Saturday, we will have surpassed last year’s total returns filed. We are still looking for one more volunteer tax preparer and one more volunteer greeter. If interested, job descriptions for both are located at http://www.brabc.com/volunteer.html . Please contact Denise at 270-725-9002.

1/23/10 - So much has happened since our last update here! In June 2009 we partnered with Wal-Mart & Feeding America for a new food program which has tremendously increased our food supplies. We have received and distributed over 8,000 lbs of food per month for the last few months from this program alone!

The USDA food program (TEFAP) has also increased in the last year to sometimes over 12,000 lbs a month.

In December, Logan County High FFA/FCCLA students really outdid themselves by delivering over 3,500 canned items and fruits from their yearly food drive. We are very sorry we were so busy we did not get some pictures this year.

What a blessed year we had for food donations!

In the fall of 2009 we were approached by Word of Life Worship Center and were asked to sponsor them for the BackPack Program through Feeding America. By the fall of 2010 they expect to have everything in order to no longer need a sponsor. We currently serve as an administrative sponsor only. The Word of Life Worship Center is raising all funds and distributing this food. If you are interested in sponsoring a child for BackPack please visit Feeding America’s Adopt a BackPacker page or contact Debbie at the Word of Life Worship Center.

We saw our first clients today for our second year of the VITA free tax prep & filing program. We saw 11 clients and filed 10 returns. We are hoping to get at least one more tax preparer soon.

Coming soon (real soon, Monday Jan. 25) we will begin taking applications for another program through Feeding America, the CFSP program. This program is very limited and Logan County has never been allowed any of these “Senior Boxes” before now. The “Senior Box” is a monthly supplemental food package to income eligible seniors. The rules are a little more stringent and we have been told our expected allotment will be around 150 boxes. A quick look at our numbers show this is about half the number of eligible clients we already see. This program also has a waiting list portion. We will be updating our Services page soon to explain in more detail as we learn more about how the program works.

You can see why the website has not been updated lately. We have been very busy at the office!

5/18/09 - We have been extremely busy! This was our first year to do taxes as a free VITA site. We agreed to do 35 returns and ended up doing 79 returns. We also have over 75 households signed up for the Russellville Water Discount. Currently we are working on getting eligible households signed up for the USDA and Pantry programs. For more info click here.

2/2/09 - Well, January is finally over! January is one of the  busiest months we have at the office. Although we usually see less people during the month, we have to interview almost everyone. This is when we are updating all of our fixed income clients and this January we also started the new Tax Assistance Partnership and the Russellville Water Discount Partnership. It has been a whirlwind. So far the new programs are going great and we have made good progress on getting everyone updated.

12/18/08 - The Concerned Citizens of Russellville and Logan County also held a food drive in December. The idea came up during a brainstorming session with the children in the tutoring program. This was the first time they have done this. Thank you so much! Click here for pictures.

12/18/08 - The Logan County High School FFA/FCCLA has done it again! Each year they organize a food drive at the school and divide it between LCGS and Agape’s Toys for Tots program. They really get the whole school involved as there are contests between class periods and teachers’ classes. I wish I had thought to line up the trucks and take a picture because it really was a sight to see 5 pickup trucks pull up to deliver canned food and fresh fruit! Something to remember for next year.  There were over 2900 cans of food and several boxes of fruit. THANK YOU LOGAN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL! Click here for pictures.

12/15/08 - Well, we finally have a web site up and running! Thank you to DreamHost.com for our free web hosting! It’s been a learning experience and the pages are not complete yet so check back often for updates.
